Cardens group celebrates 10 year anniversary this June!

June 2012 was a busy month – and a great one for recruitment it seems! A decade ago, Cardens hired Angie King, Anissa Flint, Elizabeth Darbinean, Gemma Wall and Harriet Stewart. Now, we celebrate these key members of the team and their individual career paths that have shaped payroll, accounts, management, and our internal systems.

Gemma Wall FCCA, Associate

Gemma went to university to study Accounting and Law at Brighton. After graduating, she completed nine ski seasons in Europe before returning to the UK to continue ACCA studies. “I realised after nine seasons I needed to come back and continue with my ACCA studies before my eight exemptions ran out.”

Gemma joined Cardens with two exams left to pass and has looked after many areas particularly with VAT, Bookkeeping and the P11ds. After many years of juggling a busy portfolio, she became a new Cardens Associate in April 2022.

Angie King, Payroll Manager

Angie joined Cardens as the only member of the payroll team in the business. After leaving college, she joined her then employer as an administrator. They needed help to calculate the pay of a few temp staff and the rest is history. Today, Angie is our Payroll Manager and is part of a strong team of four in payroll.

Anissa Flint FCCA, Manager

Anissa studied accounting and finance at college for a year, before deciding that accounting was her path. She sent out her CV to local accountants and bought her first suit for interviews. Cardens was Anissa’s second job interview and secured her place as our trainee.

“I think a good work ethic and having a high standard of work have helped me along the way, in addition to a can-do and problem-solving attitude.”

Elizabeth Darbinean FCCA, Manager

Elizabeth was studying for a Mathematics degree in her final year when she was offered a trainee position at Cardens and started here 10 days after her last exam. She qualified with ACCA three and half years later and progressed from Accounts Senior to Assistant Manager and now Manager.

“I have had great time working at Cardens these last 10 years and have learnt so much. From someone that didn’t know what a debit and credit was to now having managed the accounts of a wide variety of clients.”

Harriet Stewart FCCA, Systems Improvement Manager

Harriet joined Cardens as a Client Manager, working first for Barry and then Andy. The pandemic led to a reassessment and a step away from accounts. Harriet wanted to try something new without wanting to leave, so she moved into her current role as Systems Improvement Manager.

“My focus is to drive efficiencies, tackle issues, and implement newer and better systems. It’s ever evolving, and I love being a part of it. The growth and success in the last 10 years at Cardens has been amazing, and I’m looking forward to what the next 10 brings.”
